Social media became one of the most popular form of media in today's world. It helped many individuals keep up to date with what is happening, in respect to politics, global issues or simply to what is occurring in their peer's life. The internet became so popular that many people are using it as a way to express their thoughts and opinions. I do believe that everyone should be allowed to have their own voice. But when bullying is involved, that is when we need to take initiative to stop this.
I feel that physical bullying is often taken more seriously than cyber bullying. But why? Yes, hurting someone physically does hurt and can leave mark on someone's body that may hurt for a small amount of time. But hurtful words can stay with them for a long period because it is like a voice in their head that is on repeat.
It is very easy to bully someone on social media because they are not actually confronting the person face to face. This is wrong. Students or even adults should not think that just because they are "expressing their feelings", it is right. There should be a line between how and when speaking your thoughts is allowed in a way of not putting someone down.
I do see this as a concern because sometimes we think that we are not doing any harm even if we are. Twitter or even any other social media should be used as a positive environment rather than another form of bullying. Our world is already in disorder. Why add more problems?

I agree with you, some people leave mean comments for someone that they don't even know. They are having fun by mocking others, and I think this is unforgivable.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. People do have the right to express their opinion but when their opinion offends others, they might as well keep it to themselves. With having a Twitter account myself, I see unnecessary rude comments directed at people- whether it be towards celebrities or just people I know, on my timeline daily. People need to really think about what they are putting online because it stays forever. As you said, it is very easy to pick on someone on social media because they are behind a computer screen. If you are not going to say something nice, why say it at all?
ReplyDeleteI do completely agree with you on how cyberbullying is an ongoing issue and someone should take the initiative to make it stop. However, don't you think that it's theoretically impossible to do so? I think that maybe if people learned how to make themselves mentally stronger it would help a ton. I'm not stating that cyberbullying is something i find acceptable, but I do believe that this is something we need to accept and find a way to make it inaffective. We need to train ourselves so we do not take these insults to heart, especially when it is presented in a jokingly matter. So although I believe with you, I don't think bullies would pick on someone that wont give a crap about a word they say.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% because people get joy by hurting people through the internet just because they think they're funny! This cyberbullying is a reason for many teen deaths and it does really need to stop. People have two different sides to them when they are bullying a person through the internet and when they see the person they are bullying in real life, and if you wouldn't say anything to the persons face then why say it through a screen? Great points!
